Disaster Risk Reduction Toolkit
The Wildfire Risk Reduction Toolkit is aimed at communities who want to organise themselves to reduce the risk they face from forest fires.
It is specifically designed for small communities and focuses on self-reliance and community-led initiatives while taking into account knowledge, experience, available resources and the way communities are structured.

The toolkit includes a guide for communities, a guide for trainers for the implementation of a workshop for children and a presentation of a school-based activity (only in the Greek version), worksheets and four case studies, so that communities can design and implement solutions that meet their own needs and capacities.

The toolkit was developed in the framework of the Dialogue and Action against Forest Fires project, a pilot project through which we worked with four communities in Messinia to reduce the risk of natural disasters and improve their preparedness through participatory planning, dialogue and collective action.
At the same time, we worked with the Municipality of Messini to conduct the "Climate Crisis, Forest Fires, Resilient Communities" Forum that took place on November 2 and 3, 2024 at the Municipal Hall of Messini, Messinia. For the first time, different stakeholders - representatives of authorities, scientists, volunteers, schools, local communities and citizens - were in the same place, participating equally in an open dialogue, highlighting the importance of inclusiveness and participation.
